BDCFT Pensions team one to ones

One to One appointment with our Pensions team

In recent months the request for one-to-one appointments with our Pensions team has increased significantly. The many changes to the NHS Pension Scheme (NHSPS), varying conditions throughout the pandemic, and of course the effects of the pandemic itself on our workforce have meant lots more people have / or are considering retiring and are looking for advice.

We know how important this but only have two members in our team and are finding it difficult to see everyone as quickly as we’d like.  So, to help us help you find the answers to your questions, we’d be grateful if you would look at the information available first before getting in touch.

The Trusts Retirement Procedure contains lots of helpful information; in many cases this has the answers to the questions to your questions.  If you have decided to retire or are thinking of retiring, please take a little time to read  Retirement policy and procedure

Also, the NHSBSA site also has a whole range of tools and information that provides members with answers and essential information.

If, after reviewing these you still need us we will be happy to help; please email us at payroll.service@bdct.nhs.uk to request an appointment.

To help us prepare and understand your requirements, please include a brief description of what you would like to discuss. Our aim is to offer an appointment within four weeks of your request, and we will do our very best to prioritise those who need us the most first.

Many thanks for your patience and co-operation

P60 and P11D

P60

Your P60 summarises your taxable pay, tax, and national insurance during the last tax year. Payroll plan to have these available by 19 May 2021, for most of us they will need to be viewed via employee self-service. However, if you are currently receiving a paper payslip you will still receive a paper copy of your P60. Paper copies may take a little longer due to distribution but will be with you by 31 May 2021.

Please note it is important to keep a copy safely in case you need it at a later date.

P11D

If you have a salary sacrifice or lease car, it is possible you will be due to receive a P11D, this summarises the Benefit in Kind applicable for 2020-2021. HMRC and staff must receive these by 06 July 2021.  However, these are usually completed earlier and a further update will follow at the end of May to advise when you can expect receipt.

Amended Service Desk Telephone Hours

To help us deal with an increased number of email enquiries and get back to you as soon as we can we are amending the times our telephone lines will be open to be reviewed at the end of June 2021, please click here for information.

December 2020 and January 2021 Pay dates

Important Payroll Information for December 2020 and January 2021

Monthly Pay

December 2020
To pay staff in time for Christmas 2020, December pay day will be Friday 18 December 2020.  To enable us to pay you earlier in December the deadline date for all payroll information to reach us is earlier too, this will be 10:00am, Tuesday 01 December 2020.

Please remember that our processing time is significantly reduced and it is crucial the deadline is strictly adhered to. Any information not with us by this time will be processed in January 2021.

Payslips   Your online payslips will be available to view by no later than Wednesday 16 December 2020, they may be available by Tuesday 15 December 2020, however this cannot be guaranteed.

January 2021
Due to the length of time between the early December and ordinary January 2021 pay day, January pay day will instead be Friday 22 January 2021. The deadline date for all payroll information to reach us is Tuesday 05 January 2021. Again please be aware that early payment restricts the amount of time for processing and it is crucial the deadline is strictly adhered to. Any information received after this time will be processed in February 2021.

Consolidated Payments Bands 8 – 9 AFC

All non-medical substantive employees are paid in line with the nationally agreed NHS Terms and Conditions.

The terms and conditions and pay structure was significantly changed in 2018 resulting in a three year pay award with transitional arrangements in place over these three years. 2020/21 represents the final year. Information about the structural changes across the years was published in 2018 and is widely available for employees to view.

With effect 01 April 2020 further restructuring of the pay bands took place in order to complete the process of reducing the number of pay points. Two further pay points are removed from bands 8   -9.

For the duration of 2020/2021 existing employees on points 4 and 5 of bands 8a to 9 will have their salary paid differently as two separate elements on their payslip.

Basic pay at the level of points 1 to 3 of the pay scale
plus
A consolidated amount – paid monthly. On payslips this will appear as:

Basic Pay
2020 Award

All employees paid on these pay points will still see a small increase in their total annual salary (basic plus consolidated payment) compared to 2019/20.

Pay Calculation Error

A national issue has been identified for some staff in bands 8 and 9 who are receipt of a consolidated payment.

This has arisen because the current payroll process calculates enhancements using basic pay only whereas basic pay plus the consolidated payment should be used.

NHS Employers have released a statement to say a solution is being worked on by our payroll system providers ESR, and that this will be in place as soon as possible. A back payment for any arrears owed will be included.

Please note any enhancements paid in April 2020 represented time worked in March 2020 and had the correct hourly rate.

At the moment we are unable to advise the date of resolution but will provide a further update as soon as this is available.

Payroll Service Desk High volume of queries

We are currently receiving an extremely high volume of queries.

Could we please ask that customers contact us with critical pay related queries only. Enquiries can also be emailed to: Payroll.customer_services@bdct.nhs.uk.

We kindly ask that you restrict the types of enquiries submitted to those directly affecting current pay. For those requesting information only such as: estimates of pay, potential pay scale changes and any other non-urgent enquiries we would be grateful if these could be deferred until a later date.

We do appreciate that all pay related matters are important and will do our best to deal with your enquiries as soon as we can. However; this is likely to take us longer than usual due to high demand so would politely ask that you bear with this at this time.

Could we also please ask that enquiries are only submitted once which will allow us to focus our attention on providing answers as quickly as possible.

The 2020/2021 AFC Pay Award was applied in April 2020, for further details please visit:

We thank you for your continued patience and assistance.

Fraud Alert

FRAUD ALERT

Audit Yorkshire has received further information regarding payroll frauds where staff have received emails with a false incentive such as a pay rise. A variation of this fraud is now doing the rounds and some staff have received emails supposedly from Payroll asking them to verify changes made to ESR.
If a staff member clicks the link and provides their password, this allows a fraudster access to further information on the victim such as national insurance number, date of birth, address, email address, phone numbers and emergency contact details. They may even try the password input for ESR to see if the same one is used for other applications such as emails or online banking.

Please can all staff be vigilant to these kinds of emails. If you receive anything which says it is from Payroll, please do not click on any links and report it to your Local Counter Fraud Specialist.

Should you amend your bank details via ESR self-service, Payroll will contact you by telephone to verify that you have made the change; you will only be asked to confirm yes or no to the change, you will not be asked to confirm your bank details.
